Binders in conjunction with sand and aggregates are used to make very tough overlays, patching compounds, joint materials, floor toppings and epoxy polymer concretes. Often these applications require chemical resistance or are applied to a substrate in poor condition where cement-based repair mortars are often unsuitable. Both high modulus and low modulus binders are available in a range of viscosities and gel times.
In exterior applications, these products must be able to stress relieve to compensate for the effects of cure shrinkage, possible exotherms during cure and thermal contraction. Flexible binders are often more durable in substrates where the surface is exposed to repeated pounding, mechanical shock and abrasion such as floors where heavy objects are dropped, and sorting and compacting floors for commercial trash and waste processing.
Deck binders extended with sand are applied either as pre-mix systems that require sophisticated machinery or in roll-seed-roll applications that have high manual labor content. The required thickness and wear characteristics of such applications is variable so please consult our technical service staff who can help design custom aggregate mixes tailored to the specific repair.
